Emilee and I are going on a train ride on Friday! She and I are traveling via Amtrak to visit my mother in Orlando. I’m so excited… but nervous, because I’ll be without my husband for as long as I visit.

I hope I get to Valencia during my trip to visit old friends…. so hey, if you’re in Orlando, email me at rose.jordan@gmail.com and let’s try and set up a time to visit!

Nothing much tonight… just kind of chilling out. I am sick (unfortunately), and I just need to go to sleep tonight.

Two weeks!

Good afternoon! Emilee is asleep — finally! We had a rough night last night. It’s ok, though. She finally got to sleep sometime between 4:30 and 5 in the morning. She’s eaten well today, though last night was horrible!! The problem, I think, is that it’s horribly cold here at night, and it slows down my milk production. I know this because when I was at my mom’s house, which is much warmer, I was able to express out 6 oz of milk after Emilee was finished eating. Last night, I barely got out 1 oz, so I know Emilee was hungry! I felt really bad, but I couldnt’ really do anything about it. After being under the warm covers for several hours, feeding went MUCH better once Emilee woke up. I can’t believe Emilee is 2 weeks old today! I feel sooo good! I know, I keep saying that. I just expected to feel like crap for about a month, but I’m only 2 weeks past going through the most physically trying experience of my life, and I feel awesome! Even with the lack of sleep. And I can’t believe how much I love this little girl. She is gorgeous. I can’t even imagine life without her. How did I ever live without her? I’m not sure.

Ooh, Matt’s mom is on her way over here to pick us up to spend the next few days with her…. so I’ve gotta go now… I’ll post more tonight!

Well, Emilee, Matt and I have been visiting my parents this holiday weekend. I’ve enjoyed it, and Matt has enjoyed being with my brother. The two of them have a lot of fun, but don’t tend to spend a lot of time with the rest of the family. They’re more into video games and martial arts, but oh well.

I left Emilee with my mother all day on Saturday while Matt and I went to a Bible Quiz tournament. It was kind of frightening for me, and I totally missed her the whole day! I can’t believe we were gone for so long. I was so glad when we returned home!!!

Well, no new Emilee pics as of yet. I need to get to a Kinkos or something so that I can upload them and then share them online. We’ll see.

Emilee Rose Jordan is finally here! She was born at 5:20 PM on June 22, 2006. I’m sorry for not posted earlier. I have been up and around and ready to post this since right after birth, but unfortunately, I didn’t have access to an internet connection! So here we go with my birth story!

As scheduled, I went to the hospital at approximately 7:30 in the morning of June 22nd to be induced. After registration, I was assigned to a room and the nurses started oxytocin at about 8:10am. I was contracting regularly from the start. In fact, I had contractions on the way to the hospital, but nothing regular (as I’d been having contractions for about 3 ½ weeks prior to induction). The oxytocin didn’t make the contractions more painful – just more regular. I was sitting up and watching TV for the majority of the morning.

At about 11:30 am, my doctor came in (yay! I love my doctor). He checked me and I was between 2-3 cm dilated. This was good news, but I was a little disappointed, because I thought for sure I was much more dilated than that. At that point in time, he broke my water. I had no idea he was going to do that right then until it was done! He looked at me and said, “There’s no turning back now!” As if I really wanted to anyhow! I’d been waiting to have this little girl for what seemed like forever!

After he broke my water, the contractions got a lot more painful, even though on the scale that measured the contractions, they were actually lower than the previous ones had been. It was about 1:00 when I finally got some pain medication. Up to that point, I didn’t have the need for any. I don’t remember what the pain medication was called, but it really worked. However, it made me very dizzy, and I knew I wouldn’t be able to get out of bed even if I wanted to! I tried to watch TV and it made me sick to my stomach… so I decided to sleep instead. At about 2:45 or 3:00, the doctor checked me again and I was dilated to 5cm. He estimated that it would be around 9pm when she would be born.

Well, Emilee and I had other ideas! I had just asked for my second shot of pain medication at around 4:45pm when I felt the need to push. Unfortunately, I was only dilated to 9.5 cm, so I had to wait. That was really the toughest part, I think. I suppose I should have learned some breathing techniques prior to going into labor… this is where I could have used them, I’m sure. In any case, I was finally dilated to 10 at around 5:00, and with about 10 good pushes, Emilee was born. My mother-in-law, my husband, and my friend Sherry witnessed the birth.

Looking back, I’m not upset that I didn’t have the option of the epidural. I think I might want it as an option next time around, but I don’t know that I’m going to go for it. I did fine with the IV medication. I also did not have an episiotomy. According to my husband, I tore in 4 places. I didn’t really feel this at all, though. I was just ready to get her out! It was an amazing experience, and I can’t believe that I actually did it without much medication at all. The most painful part of childbirth for me was getting sown up afterward. I feel much better now, but getting stitches was really painful! I’m recovering well, and Emilee is gorgeous! I’m glad that I finally get to go home today.

The hospital experience has been wondering. Breastfeeding has been more of a challenge than I thought it would be, but it hasn’t really been horrible! She finally seems to be getting the hang of it, a fact for which I am super glad. The nurses kept waking me up to feed her the first night we were here, but she’s doing much better if I just wait until she is ready to eat. A nurse woke me up today at 5:30 and said that I needed to feed her, but that just caused undue stress on both of us. I tried to feed her for an hour, but she didn’t want to eat – she just wanted to go back to sleep. So we cuddled instead. Later on, at about 7:30, she was much more ready to eat, and she ate for over an hour. It was actually quite nice. I don’t know how long I’ll be able to solely breastfeed for, as eventually (aka, in the next 4 weeks), I’m going to have to return to work, but I’m loving it for right now!

3 days overdue!

Well, Emilee's not here yet, but she will be here as of Thursday. I'm going to be induced at 8am, though we have to call the hospital to make sure there's a bed available. If there's not, then I have a doctor's appointment next Tuesday. I hope I don't make it that far!!

I am one more centimeter dialated (bringing me up to a total of 2cm!) and I'm 70% effaced. That makes me happy, because I'm all set for the induction. Emilee did really well for the non-stress test, though the problem wasn't waking her up so she could be active during it. The problem was putting her to sleep!! She was kicking like crazy! That's why the NST was like an hour long instead of the normal 20 minutes that it should be.

Also, I have u/s pictures to share… I took a picture of a picture and it turned out great. I just need to find the cord to connect the camera to the computer!!

That's all for now… we just got home from shopping, so I guess I'll let Matthew back on the computer.
